THE STORY

On what is now called Via Torre Clementina, between 1823 and 1828, due to the interest of the chamber treasurer Belisario Cristaldi, the seaside village of Fiumicino was born, based on a project not completely realized by Giuseppe Valadier. Built with material recovered from the ancient city of Porto, the Borgo included a church, a customs house, a post office, a factory for health, a hotel, many taverns and a row of residential buildings, separated from the canal by Italian-style gardens. The whole complex has remained well preserved over the years and appears as Valadier designed it, since no works have ever been carried out such as to compromise its original appearance, the Municipality of Fiumicino today has its headquarters in what was once the Fabbrica della Sanità.
